Klimata is an interdisciplinary project and a thematic issue of the performance series Montag Modus.

Taking the term “climate” in its broadest sense as the project’s point of departure, Klimata consists of five subsequent events that explore current global economic, political and social developments. Each event has a different focus within the broader theme of the climate. As defined by Bruno Latour, climate is understood here as “a wide range of relationships between humans and their material living conditions”.

Over the course of 2019, Montag Modus invites 3 to 5 productions of Budapest- and Berlin-based artists from both visual and performing arts as well as a writer or cultural scholar to contribute to the given topic in their respective media. We allocate one-week residencies to the participants in the time preceding the public event in order for them to rehearse and further develop the works.

Each thematic edition proposes a conceptual starting point for the artists to interpret as they wish. When presented together, the pieces invoke a temporary dialogue on the concepts at hand, curated together in an exhibition-like manner at either CHB or Flutgraben. The Montag Modus series is always free for attendees, further establishing the project as a generous meeting point for the Berlin scene’s many participants, makers and thinkers.
