PERFORMATIVE DINNER
The third edition of this year’s Montag Modus’ “archive of futures” project departs from the intersection of Eastern Europe’s many pasts and futures. The planetary standing of this geopolitical, cultural—and somehow always out-of-time—space is examined and played with through the means of sharing food and stories.
A journey into actual and speculative territories of Eastern Europe unfolds through a three-course dinner*, based on regional cuisine and family recipes, prepared by the team of Montag Modus. The dinner is filled with food, spirits, games and paired with an artistic program that together guide our wanderings and exchanges. Lena Szirmay-Kalos and Kasia Wolińska, together with Petre Mogoș and Laura Naum (Kajet Journal), propose approaching the figure of the East and the postcommunist diaspora from within their own situatedness—living in the former West and being born either during the era of transition or shortly before the fall of communism—resonating with second-hand memories, failed hopes, and identities in flux. To the shared table they bring concepts and philosophical alliances that engage with the anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, and post-national work initiated by their political ancestors: all with the purpose to reclaim Eastern Europe as a space where a shared European history took place only to be then forgotten, and where the future is yet to be articulated.
* suitable for vegans and vegetarians, some dishes will contain gluten, nuts and eggs
