Local cosmologies, queer practices of world-making and decolonial historiographies underpin Montag Modus' "archive of futures" project. The second edition, a one-evening performance-exhibition at Radialsystem presents video works and performances by Alicja Rogalska, the collective Hollow and the choreographers Przemek Kamiński and Marta Ziółek. Featuring artists from Hungary and Poland, the evening unfolds along the search for visions of the future that leave space for local identities and regional agency beyond nationalist ideologies.

In “Drops of Tears Glistened on the Flowers” that is presented for the first time to the public, choreographer Przemek Kamiński in collaboration with dancers Angelo Petracca and Fabian Riess dissect the movement vocabulary of Kujawiak, one of the Polish National Dances. In four episodes they embody and queer the movement material so that new qualities of the dance are emerging.

Adapting traditional folk songs to contemporary societal issues underpins the video works "Dark Fibres" and "News Medley" by Alicja Rogalska which will be screened in the first part of the evening. "Dark Fibres" is performed by a Georgian polyphonic choir and tells the story of the unwitting sabotage of a fiber optic cable between Georgia and Armenia by an elderly woman collecting scrap metal. In "News Medley", a collaboration with Katalin Erdődi and Réka Annus, the Women's Choir of Kartal sing about their lives in the Hungarian countryside, bringing together personal stories with collective concerns about community life and the future of the village.

In a video triptych that is on view throughout the whole event, Rogalska speculates on alternative realities and future scenarios: In “The Feast” four people gather for a dinner party during which they consume fossil fuels while discussing strategies of social transformation needed to avert the climate catastrophe; in “Dreamed Revolution” local activists under the influence of hypnosis share how they imagine life in the Polish city of Łódź 100 years in the future; “NOVA”, a collaboration with Ana de Almeida and Vanja Smiljanić documents a post-patriarchal Live Action Role Play in Vienna.

Twice during the evening, choreographer Marta Ziółek, along with Karolina Kraczkowska and Aleksandra Lemba, will guide a small number of audience members through a transformative journey. Within an intimate setting, "Future Rituals" becomes an immersive experience where the ritual threshold becomes the catalyst for forging new alliances.

The event will be closed by an immersive performance of the collective Hollow. “Aura” examines the relationship between theater and reality, as well as the world-making potential of shared imagination. Similarly to Hollow’s previous works, the audience is invited to join an imaginary journey, evoked through poetics, media art, contemporary dance, role-playing, experimental electronic music and singing.

Drawing on worldbuilding strategies of Eastern European grassroots initiatives, the second iteration of  “archive of futures” explores forms of resistance within queer and feminist communities, speculates on the potential of posthuman corporeality, and imagines alternative realities and futuristic scenarios.

Event starts at 17:00 with video works

Performances start at 18:00
